Hello Education Faculty! I hope you all had a wonderful summer and are ready for the fall semester. Here are just a few updates from the library as we begin the new school year. I look forward to working with you all again this fall! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
The Open Educational Resources Team is excited to introduce our new OER Consultation Service. This service is designed to be a beginning point for faculty who are interested in adopting an OER but aren’t sure where to start. You can complete the consultation request form or reply to this email with your thoughts and I will partner with you to create a list of OERs based on your needs.
Textbook Pilot Program
The L&LS Textbook Reserves Pilot Program is an effort to help increase student retention by reducing the burden of rising textbook costs by purchasing and placing on reserve one copy of required textbooks at both main campus and the Ballston center. However, due to the volume and timing of the pilot, there are some textbooks that are currently checked out and recalled, on order, or still being processed. If you are wondering about the status of your textbooks or have any questions, please reach out and I will check on the status.
When searching for articles in our databases, you will see an updated page when you click on the 360Find it button. This will better direct users to the full text of an article or guide users to request articles via Interlibrary Loan.
2nd Floor Shelf Shifts
We have been shifting books on different floors of the library over the summer! The goal is to transform the second floor of the library into a more collaborative study space free of shelves. Please pardon the disruption and if you have any questions about where to find a book or other physical material, ask a librarian!
New Ballston Center Library Location
Our new Ballston Center Library Extension is located on the third floor in room 3082. It is a bright and beautiful spot to lounge in a chair or couch before class starts and has great study rooms for your students. If you teach in the new Ballston Center or go to visit, be sure to stop by.
LibGuides in Canvas and Linkmaker
As you may know when we switched to Canvas last Fall, the library embedded a research guide into every course. Take a look at your guides and contact me if you'd like to see any changes or additional resources added or if you'd like to develop something unique to meet your course needs! Also, just a friendly reminder to embed library resources into canvas via LinkMaker!
Collections and Databases
Throughout the year if you discover there are books, resources, or databases that you would like the library to consider purchasing, please contact me! We love incorporating useful and new resources in our collections like this:
Sage Education Videos
Comprised of 450 videos, this collection offers a practical view into a full range of teaching settings and situations, from early years to educational leadership, to support students needing to understand theory or how to apply it in practice.
