Streaming Media on the Web

There are an increasing number of options for free-streaming of educational content on the internet. This is not limited to YouTube and Vimeo. Universities and other educational organizations are creating video content and sharing it for free for educational use. There are also websites that allow users to stream commercial content, such as popular videos, tv shows, and documentaries for free with ad content. Below are some suggestions from the library.

Education-focused videos

CornellCast
Videos and lectures from Cornell University.
Documentary Heaven
Aggregator of documentary films from across the web. Those who upload films need to claim they are in the public domain or uploaded to the platform by the creator's consent. Check with your librarian if you have questions.
Folkstreams
Folkstreams is a non-profit dedicated to finding, preserving, contextualizing, and showcasing documentary films on American traditional cultures.
Mayo Clinic Videos
Surgical procedures and interviews with Mayo Clinic doctors on a variety of medical subjects.
National Film Board of Canada
Documentaries, animation, education and art films created by a government-supported National Film Board of Canada. Many are Canada-centric, but others have universal appeal.
Netflix Documentaries on YouTube
To accommodate the growing need for streaming content, Netflix has put several of its most popular documentary series on YouTube for free, unlimited access.
Open Yale Courses
Full recordings and materials of courses taught by Yale faculty.
PBS
PBS puts many of its programs online for free (others require a "passport" login). If something is produced by PBS, it's worth a try to check here first, especially for more recent content.
